Support the Walk for Diabetes
along the
Road to Santiago!!
After spending much time contacting corporations, which service the
diabetic, cardiac, and hiking consumer, and trying to collaborate with
them in the way of endorsements and/or some type of financial involvement,
I learned the final word — no corporate financing to individuals
— to foundations only.
Since corporations could not support my project, I then turned to my
friends, family, neighbors, employers (past and present), co-workers,
health-care givers, local businesses, and organizations. Which was just
as well since it has resulted in spreading my message about diabetes
and the benefits of walking. Now the word has been spread around to
individuals who care and can take action.
The fact is that I am an individual who is trying to reach other individuals
in order to increase their diabetes awareness and encourage them to
modify their lifestyles with daily exercise. Thus, I am now approaching
individuals and small businesses for small individual donations to support
my walking crusade. Interest, support, and enthusiasm have been terrific!!
But I still have a long way to go.
Although my operating budget has been pared down to bare bones with
little wiggle room for emergencies (which is a worry for those people
who hope I will return even if it is to start tormenting them again),
I have been able to begin the journey with high hopes. A local bank
has opened an account, Road To Santiago, as a vehicle for receiving
donations. The bank is also donating two weeks of support. (My expenses
while on the road will be $25/day for food and shelter, plus medical
expenses.) Since I calculate that my trip will take about seven weeks,
I would be grateful for any support you could provide.
